No "Dog Barf" Cookies

My family has made the same Christmas cookies for many generations, it was my Great Grandma's recipe and was something we looked forward to every year...until Rick became a part of our family. I made them and decorated them all by myself our first Christmas and was sooo excited to share them...when he politely told me they tasted like dog barf. Devin, my brother-in-law agreed with Rick the first Christmas he was a part of our family...I'm sure my Great Grandmother is rolling over in her grave about these two boys and our choices of making them a part of our family. However, I am sad to say this was the first year we haven't made them and decided to try a new recipe that used butterscotch pudding rather than molasses in hopes of losing the nickname the boys so rudely gave them. I figured the kids were old enough this year to do the rolling all by themselves...nobody even dropped the rolling pin on their foot and the cookies were a great thickness and baked beautifully! Then it was time to cut them all out. The kids we THRILLED to use the new cookies cutters from Aunt Vicki since they were twice the size of our old ones.

Hard at work creating various masterpieces with each cookie. The taste test...
...the kids said the dough tasted WAY better than their Great Great Grandma's recipe but the cookies were only a little bit better. Rick's comment when he tried them, "Oh, those are WAY better...WAY better. Still not a sugar cookie, but better." I still like my Great Grandma's. We'll see what we do in future years.

We used dad's sugar cookie recipe and they are the best ever! I do have to agree with Rick and Devin that the molasses cookies aren't the best. Not dog barf, but I don't care for the taste! Maybe it's an in-law thing! You guys grew up with them!!

There's something to be said about tradition. How about a half batch of each next year?
