Blake's school has a Rockin' Rhythms group that the 5th and 6th grade kids can tryout for and participate in. Blake informed me of this AFTER the tryouts since he knew we'd make him...however, a week after the tryouts his music teacher made him stay after class and play something for her real quick and told him he could be part of the group. I'm so glad she forced him to "tryout" because he is really enjoying it and has even been given the more difficult parts on some of the faster paced songs since he already had a music background.
I've been helping out teaching keyboards in his music class, while he was learning guitar the last few weeks and he asked me to come in an hour early today to sit in for their practice session today. It's AMAZING how what she has gotten these 14 kids to do in such a short period of time - they have marimbas, xylophones, a drum set, various other drums and random percussion instruments. I can't wait to go to his holiday concert - they're playing my favorite, Carol of the Bells as one of their songs. It's soooo nice to be back in a state that values music education and that he's getting to learn so many new things...he can't wait for band next year!

ooooh how fun for a kid! Glad Blake is getting to do this and that he's doing so well.
Travis and I are glad that he is following in our footsteps!! I played Marimba and xylo for 8 years!! And Uncle Travis has the drums covered!
