Ever since we can remember Blake has been obsessed with books...which, don't get me wrong, is NOT a bad thing. It's made for a lot of cute pictures over the years. Today while I was practicing the piano with Ashlyn I couldn't help snapping this picture...
It drives him CRAZY to have a book in the house that he hasn't read before. I use to laugh because that meant he quickly read all of Ashlyn's library books on the way home before diving into the pile he picked for himself. This has been going on for years...now that she's old enough to realize what he's doing it makes her mad! So I found him "sneaking" her book today...Junie B. Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus. This made me laugh for two reasons. #1 - That his obsession has driven him to read a "girl book" and #2 - now that Ashlyn has started reading chapter books he won't be able to quickly read her stack on the way home from the library...how long with the obsession last as her books get longer and longer??? I feel kind of bad, since he went to kindergarten with a 4th grade reading level he wasn't ALLOWED to read books like Junie B. Jones or the similar series for boys - Ready Freddy, because they were below his AR level. He missed out on a lot of really good books/series...maybe he'll secretly get caught up via his little sister's library card!
