Little Blond Girl With a 'Fro

Ashlyn has been really into having one single or double braids in her hair. I like it because it's quick and easy and keeps her every growing hair off her neck in the summer heat...she loves how kinky it is when we take it out. So we decided to do a little experiment...After about an hour of sitting there (thank goodness she has thin hair) I was able to get all of her hair in tiny braids and she LOVED it. It wasn't until after doing it that I thought about the fact that it's little Black girls who wear their hair like this here, but since we weren't going anywhere except the beach and the pool the next few days I didn't worry about it...until we stopped for lunch on the way home from the beach that is!

Right as we walked into McDonald's a very large Black police officer walked right up to her and commented how cute she looked...boy was I glad he didn't take it the wrong way! Then today we had a ton of errands to run and she didn't want to take them out yet. At every store we went to at least one, if not more, Black moms and dads commented on the cute little blond girl with braids. Ashlyn loved the attention, I just didn't want to offend anybody...so we took them out tonight while getting ready for bed.

Here's the results....The pictures don't do the kinkiness justice - I couldn't believe how tight the curls were.She loved how kinky and poofy it was, but quickly got annoyed by it being in her face. So we pulled half of it up in a little clip and it was still TONS to deal with. I guess I never realized how thin and flat her hair naturally is.
It was too bad the ends were still straight since ya can't braid it all the way to the end - it was kind of cute...maybe we'll get a crimper.

And no, the little blond girl with the 'fro did not out in public!
