We were lucky enough to visit her about two weeks before she passed, even though it was hard to see her in the condition she was in, we were grateful for the opportunity. Blake wouldn't go any where near her bedroom when we went to visit her for the last time, Ashlyn on the other other hand had no problems crawling up and hanging out with her.
On the day of her funeral both kids hoped up in these chairs next to her casket and hung out for the duration of the time at the funeral home...there were a few last minute problems, so we were there A LOT longer than anticipate for the viewing. I on the other hand opted to stay out in the foyer area. I thought it was interesting that Blake wouldn't visit Gram when she was sick, but had no problems hanging out next to her after she passed away...maybe it was the fun chairs.
She always said she didn't want a big to-do funeral, but agreed for a small graveside service. Aren't the flowers pretty? The kids pulled some out of the boquette for the scrapbook at the end of the service...do I have them brainwashed or what in the scrapbooking department!
The grandsons and great-grandsons were asked to be pall bearers. Blake was reluctant at first to do it since Rick wasn't there to help, but he did great.
Gram loved her jewlery and boy did she have a lot! After she passed my Mom put each piece in a seperate baggie and brought it out with her for all us kids, grandkids and even the great grandkids to divide up. Boy did she have some interesting items...we got a laugh at some of them, but the greatgrandkids loved them! We all ended up with quite the loot to take as a momento of her...I got a watch and 4 necklaces. Ashlyn ended up with a watch, a couple of bracelets, and a necklace.
The only good part about Grandma passing away, accept for the fact that she didn't have to suffer anymore, was that my sisters and parents flew in for almost a week. We were so excited to see them since they live so far away. Here's a picture of the cousins playing on a porch swing at a park. Poor Blake didn't have anybody close to his age...my brother's kids are closer in age, but they weren't able to come.
We went to a park for a picinic and to feed the ducks...little did we know we'd really end up feeding the fish. There were literally 100's of rainbow trout in the pond that would jump out of the water and take the bread before the ducks could get it. My uncle actually hand fed the fish...until he got bit by one. Ashlyn had fun feeding them with her little cousin Ryleigh... she's sooo cute!
Blake finally decided to coax one out of the water so he could feed it instead of the fish.

Sorry to hear about your grandma. It looks like you made a few more memories from the end of her life, though. Glad you were able to go and have so much family come close.
