This past weekend the kids and I went up to my Aunt and Uncle's house in northern Georgia to visit my terminally ill Grandmother and my Mom who flew in for a couple of weeks to help out. It was a sad reason for a visit, but we were glad to see Grandma one last time and spend some time with my Mom.

We did some shopping, decorated sugar cookies, played games and Ashlyn got to read a story to her Grandma for the first time...she's getting to be quite the little reader.

The highlight of the weekend was going to the new Children's Musuem. They had a dinosaur exhibit that was FULL of life size replicas of TONS of dinosaurs...only one bone of each skeleton was real though.

Then we were able to dig for our own fossils and pick one to take home! Blake found a mackerel shark tooth and Ashlyn found a stingray tooth - who knew they had teeth?

Then there was a rocks and minerals exhibit...if I could've taken just ONE of those pretty stones to make a piece of jewlery out of! They were all behind glass so I wasn't even able to take pictures of any. At the end of the exhibit they kids had a chance to pan for their own minerals to take home. We ended up with quite a few really pretty ones in all different colors once we caught on to how to do it.

Then there was a science exhibit with all kinds of hands on activities to explore science. I knew Blake would have a good time since they've studied rocks and minerals along with fossils in science this year, but I was surprised how much Ashlyn got into it all.
