Blake's Debut

Last night Blake had another band concert and his big debut on the french horn!  He has played the trumpet last year and for the holiday concert this school year, but his band teacher ordered a TON of new instruments including 6 french horns.  Blake couldn't wait to get his hands on one and his teacher was nice enough to oblige.  He was even recognized last night as picking up the new instrument in January and doing fabulous.

Blake has had a lot of fun with it and everybody in class can tell what a difference it makes to have the french horn blend the different sounds together, it really does make a difference.  He really enjoys it, but also misses the fun parts and solos he has always had on the the trumpet...not to mention that until this year the entire trumpet section was made up of his deacons quorum which made band even more fun.  So...him and his teacher have discussed it and after their competition this week, when they will move on to new music, Blake is going to play the french horn for the "concert band" type music and the trumpet for the "jazzy, pep band" type music.  He also plans on trying out for the Walla Walla Symphony this summer and will have a better shot with playing the french horn since it isn't as popular to play since it is a lot harder.

Here are the 3 songs they played last night.  Their band was the last one to perform so we didn't know where to sit to get a good view of Blake playing...and of course we picked wrong.  We got a great view of the saxophone player next to him and the microphone that is blocking our view of him playing though.  :)

Unfortunately I had problems uploading the videos here, so you will have to click on the links below:
