We just got home from Blake's State All-Star baseball tournament...what a FUN weekend!! It was up in Oak Harbor, Washington, which is an island in the Puget Sound...talk about beautiful!
The boys had 2nd Saturday off from baseball so we were able to check out Deception State Park and enjoy some beautiful scenery, wonderful sunny skies and cool 70 degree temperatures...it was AWESOME!
It had the HUGE bridge that we walked the foot path across. The wind was whipping through the canyon and it was COLD, so we walked really fast to get across! Fog came in and filled up the canyon, but eventually burnt off so we could take some good pictures.
Then we hiked up the Summit Trail for a better view, but unfortunately the fog prevented us from seeing anything but the tree tops. The boys still had fun though and the younger siblings of the baseball players had a good time trying to keep up. Here are a couple of the boys checking out the view...on the edge of the cliff, which freaked us moms out.

Afterwards we had a picnic and they decided - even though it was only in the high 60's - that they would all go swimming in the ocean front fresh water lake...brrr!!!
I was shocked that they lasted almost 2 hours in the FREEZING water...I think peer pressure had a lot to do with them all getting in in the first place!
Then we went over to the beach side of the park for some fun climbing on the rocks...
...finding crabs, learning how to skip rocks, taking a family picture...
...testing out the REALLY cold water...
...and realizing it was just too cold to get in.
Now for the reason we went up to Oak Harbor...BASEBALL! Saturday morning was Opening Ceremonies. It was fun to see all 15 teams out on the field and for All-Star baseball people to be EVERYWHERE we went all weekend.
The ball park was right on the beach with a great view of all the snow capped mountains...talk about a great place to play some baseball!
Their first games was Saturday afternoon against Kent. We held in there strong the whole game and had a lot of fun watching. We were ahead 5-4 going into the last inning, but they had a power hitter come up with two people on base against a kid from our team who was put in to pitch the last inning...who had NEVER pitched in a game before...the kid smashed it and we ended up losing 5-6. Such a disappointing way to lose the game.
In their down time the boys had a BLAST swimming in the hotel pool...all of which was done in the evening...when it was only 62 degrees at the warmest...WAY too cold for me! Us parents were bundled up in blankets or sweatshirts.
And the night before their 2nd game we all got together and BBQ'ed at park...and of course they all got out their baseball stuff and played a game when they weren't eating. It was also one of the little brother's birthdays on Monday so some of us braved Chuck E. Cheeses...they had a blast, but I still think that place is of the devil.
Their 2nd game was Monday evening against Richland. Blake was THRILLED to play 1st base and did a GREAT job! We were ahead the first half of the game, but for some reason our coach pulled our pitcher who was doing great. We started getting sloppy and they tied the score, then got ahead by one run and in the last inning they sealed the deal and we lost 2-8. A lot of the boys were pretty disappointed because it was double elimination tournament and that meant we were going home.
It was a great weekend and playing All-Stars was a great experience for Blake. He got lots of extra practice and game time in, made some great friends and we got to have a BLAST up in Puget Sound for a long weekend. What more could we ask for!
