Rick ended up having an extra day off of work when we got back from my family's reunion last night, so we decided to head up to Crater Lake one last time before we move at the end of the month.
The scenery was QUITE a bit different from when we went during Christmas vacation and it was A LOT warmer, 72 degrees made for a perfect day.
It's hard to describe the shades of blue that you find in the water and how crystal clear it was, without seeing it for yourselfs....AMAZING sums it all up though.
The kids were excited that there was a little snow left around and they all ganged up on me and through a snowball when I told them I was taking the picture on the count of 3....because of their stellar aim, none of them hit me.
Then we ventured to hike the 2.2 mile round trip trail down to the water....did I mention it seemed like it was straight down the whole time?? The kids were pretty mad at me on the way up. Ashlyn thought it was pretty cool though to be INSIDE of a volcano.
Here's proof that we made it all the way down alive...we've done it once and don't need to EVER again!
We didn't think to bring swim suits, but the kids had fun wading in it...it wasn't as cold as we thought, but maybe because only our feet were in. The rangers said the water temperature is about 50 degrees around the edges and only about 32 degrees in the middle...lots of people were jumping off the rocks and swimming though - crazy!!!
Rick was the one who got the deepest, getting his shorts wet even.
We had a fun day exploring one last spot of Oregon before we move, if you haven't been there - you sure are missing out!

That looks so cool!! Cat's been really worried about volcanoes lately and asked me to promise her that we would never move somewhere where there is a volcano. She wouldn't have been too keen on joining you on your hike I think. :-) Glad you didn't get erupted on!
