Invasion of Crocodiles!

About 2 months ago Blake out grew his shoes, which mean buying a pair of church shoes, a pair of Nikes, a pair of flip flops for the beach/pool and a nice pair of sandals. After buying him 4 new pairs of shoes in one week he had the nerve to say he also wanted a pair of Crocs because everybody at school wears them. I would have had no problem buying him a pair if he would've spoken up BEFORE I bought 4 new pairs of shoes.

Needless to say I told him he'd have to either wait until he needed new shoes again or save up his commission money and buy them himself. He decided to save his money to buy them himself, which took awhile since he only has the potential of earning $5 a week, with 10% going to tithing and 1/2 of the remaining going to savings. He chose a pair of Tony Stewart ones and finally had enough to buy them two weeks ago. Stupid me decided to look around the rest of the website before ordering them and found U of O ones which were more than twice as much. So we decided that if he paid 1/2 we'd pay the other half, which meant he had two more weeks of commission to earn before he'd have enough money. Rick wondered why I agreed when the original agreement was he had to pay for them. My reply was that anything was better than having him walk around in bright orange Tony Stewart ones! (Plus the kid had been saving for 2 months...thanks Aunt Wendy for the $5 on the pillow to add to it to make it go faster!)

Then of course Ashlyn wanted a pair, which was fine because I found these way cute ones on clearance. She hasn't taken them off since the mailman dropped them off this afternoon. She calls them her "Crocodiles" and gets mad when anybody tries to correct her. I'm sure this is the first of MANY instances that my children are going to want something because everybody else has it.....eeesh!

It's a tricky thing when you actually have the means to provide...deciding WHAT to provide and what not to can be a bit of a headache.
