Blake's class read a story about robots this week and then each kid was given the homework assignment of creating a robot to bring to school. It ended up being a bigger project than we anticipated....

Dad insisted that it needed to move somehow (I told him it was a 1st grade project and I highly doubted the teacher expected a functioning robot!) but he wouldn't rest until they came up with the idea of putting it on top of Blake's remote control Hummer. Here they are trying to figure out how to attach it without seeing it.

Then after Blake collected lots of different sized boxes to create the body, my job was to be crafty and help him make it look like a robot.

Blake took a bunch of things from my craft box and some paint and really got into the project creating the different characteristics.

Finally "Derek" came to life and went for a spin in our driveway.

Since all robots are created for a purpose, Blake decided that "Derek's" job was to practice the piano for him each day so I'd think he was getting it done and he could be off doing something more exciting. It'll be interesting to see what the other kids in his class come up with....

Those boys!!! Great creativity, though.
That is just brilliant!
WOW! Nice job. If Ryleigh ever needs to build a robot in the future I am sending her to your house.
