This was the first year that I am grouchy that summer is over and the kids had to go back to school. We had a great lazy but fun filled summer and the kids FINALLY got the concept of sleeping in until about 8 o'clock down...so we weren't looking forward to getting back into the every day grind of school.
Blake made this VERY clear starting the second we walked in the door last night from being in Salem for the holiday weekend and Duck game. They built brand new schools this year and Ashlyn's hadn't passed inspection as of Thursday so I think he was hoping we'd get a phone call saying they had to postpone starting today...no luck! I had to drag him out of bed and hustle him along all morning. He tried to tell me he didn't need to print out his schedule (even though he couldn't tell me where he went after 1st period) or that he didn't need his notebook or other school supplies or that he needed his trumpet. It was quite the evening/morning! Ashlyn on the other hand was thrilled and had everything ready to go last night and even cooperated with the obligatory 1st Day of School picture...Blake didn't though and this was the best we ended up with unfortunately. Here's to tomorrow going a little better!
(After posting this picture on Face Book, friends commented that I needed to remind Blake to tie his shoes...He always puts his shoes on in the car, no matter where we are going/time of day...so he was mad that I remembered to take a picture as were getting into the car. The grass was wet so he threw his shoes on real fast and said he'd tie them on on way since we were running late. Then Auntie Ann commented on his lack of dressing up on the 1st Day of School....Everybody wears basketball shorts, t-shirts and matching elite socks...but was grouchy after looking TONS of places that we couldn't find any matching elite socks. So since this is all he wears, I stopped buying "dressy" clothes like polos for him since they just sit in his closet!)
