Blake has discovered chapter books this week during Spring Break and could be found reading just about everywhere - the car, the table, his room, the living room....We went to the library and I got the first in the Ramona Quimby series by Judy Blume for him. I figured we could read it together outloud for him to be able to comprehend it. However once we had read the first 5 pages, he politely asked if he could just read it himself because it would be faster. So periodically I would ask him comprehension questions and not only was he able to discuss what was happening in the book he was able to form predictions of what might happen next! He started the book late Wednesday afternoon and told me he was done Friday after dinner - it's a 200 page book! He just couldn't put it down for the two days. So we went back to the library this morning and got the next one in the series along with the book "How to Eat Fried Worms". Maybe having two of them and the fact that he won't have as much time on his hands because he's back in school that those will last him until we go back to the library when the books are due.
