Last night was Blake's 8th Grade Graduation....the fact that they have such a thing we thought was silly, but we were glad we made him go! They had them all walk in like a traditional graduation with music playing and everything.
The Principal gave a great speech, giving the students advice on what they needed to do to be successful in the future, a slide show and recognized all the Student Athletes and those who participated in extra curricular activities. Then came the awards...
...Mr. Patterson presented him with The Most Outstanding Student Award. They picked 1 boy/1 girl based on grades, test scores, extra curricular activities, sports, teacher recommendations, etc. Blake received it for the boys and Courtney Maliah for the girls. What an accomplishment to be the one chosen out of the entire grade!
Then the Principal, Mr. Stopperhan, presented Blake and 4 other students with the Golden Presidential Award for Academic Excellence! We had to look up the qualifications for it, besides grades and test scores they look for students with "high motivation, initiative, integrity, intellectual depth, leadership qualities and/or exceptional judgment" and had to have multiple teacher recommendations. They only handed out 2 awards the whole evening and Blake received them both!
After the program was over and we found him in the crowd he got a big hug from both mom and dad. I told him how proud we were for all his hard work...he said thanks and kind of laughed it off - "I didn't do much Mom, school is easy." Love his humbleness and how he lets his actions and achievements speak for themselves instead of bragging about himself. We are proud of him and the young man he has become. I can't believe he is officially a freshman at CPHS! Where has the time gone??
