Trip Down Memory Lane #1

For those of you who didn't know, my Dad was born and raised here in Walla Walla.  So since we've moved here there are a few things that I remember doing as a kid here in town when we'd come to visit Grandma and Grandpa that I was excited to take our kids to do.

Rick and Blake had to go back (with Loren's help, thanks!) to Klamath Falls this weekend to finish grabbing the rest of the stuff that didn't fit in the U-haul...they just happened to go via Eugene for the Oregon/Fresno State game...so Ashlyn and I had the house to ourselves for the weekend.  So we invited Aunt Kristen and Danielle over Saturday and we hit Pioneer Park for a picnic.
The main thing I remembered was going to the duck pond and feeding the ducks.  The ducks and the pond were both still there, but there was a REALLY big sign that said "Don't Feed the Ducks".  Why have a duck pond if you can't feed the ducks??  Since I had bought a 50 cent loaf of bread just for these ducks, we broke the rules and fed them...we told Ashlyn we wouldn't do it again though, I just didn't want to have to eat the stuff.
Then we headed over to the Avery, which had all kinds of beautiful birds along with a sign for each about them and where they usually lived.  This ones came right up to Ashlyn and starting talking to her, it was pretty funny.  He even followed her along the fence just a chatting away and would stop and "listen" when she bent down to talk to him.
The park in filled with TONS of HUGE old trees that the girls couldn't help playing on...perfect picture opportunity.  It also has all kind of pretty flower gardens, perfect place for Senior Pictures if we're still living here.
Then there was the really odd statue we came across on our way to the playground...notice it's a lady driving an ox cart, which we thought was weird enough...then Kristen noticed it had a corn cob pipe in her mouth - ladies didn't smoke in public back then...then we noticed how the lady was REALLY anatomically correct...then Ashlyn noticed the ox had boots on...again it was a weird statue, but the girls had fun climbing on it.

It was the first of many trips down memory lane for me now that we're all settled in and I can't wait to check a few more off the list.  Thanks Aunt Kristen and Danielle for coming as our first visitors!
