Today was the day the Blake and his friends have been prepairing for since this fall - the Battle of the Books Competition! They left school early and headed to the next county over for the big competition against 17 other teams in their division. Their team was made up of two 3rd graders and three 4th graders.

The kids had 10 books that they each had to read and have been studing and quizing each other over them since January. I read all the books to help Blake write the study questions and I was SHOCKED at the SMALL handful of answers that I was able to come up with while I sat in the audience.

Each team was given a question and had 20 seconds to hundle and discuss their answer. If they were correct they earned 5 points, if not the other team could steal for 3 points. Multiple judges commented to me after each round how funny it was to watch Blake's team discuss their answers and how big of debates it created between the team...and how many times Blake knew the right answer and the team captain didn't believe him and answered wrong - it probaby costed them a trophy since it was numerous times at five points a question!
They were disappointed that they ended up just shy of enough points to earn a trophy and ended up getting 5th place out of 18 schools. Out of 8 trophies handed out our county earned 6 of them - go Pierce County!
