Tinkling the Ivories

I've tried numerous times to upload a video of Blake playing the piano, but for some reason it won't upload. So here's a picture, you'll just have to have him play for you next time we talk on the phone. He's loving piano lessons and sits down multiple times a day and plays. He's about 2/3 through the Primer Level book and is also playing a variety of Christmas sheet music, most of which is Level 1. Today he came to me and asked if I could teach him the Star Spangled Banner - they sing a patriotic song each morning with the Pledge of Allegiance and that's the one they're working on this month. So I found a version that was Level 2 and told him that was the easiest version I could find, but it was still going to be awhile before he could play it. He didn't like that answer, so he sat down and plucked out page one and is practicing it before I'll give him page two. I'm surprised, but he's actually able to do it! He's playing cords in a lot of the sheet music and the National Anthem and also some of the Christmas music has sharps and flats. Plus he's memorized Jingle Bells. I walked in the other day and he was playing it just fine and noticed that the music was sitting on the couch behind him. After all the hours that I spent practicing and memorizing music I was excited that he was able to memorize it without trying - his response was, "Nah, I don't have it memorized Mom - I messed up once at the end!"
